Global Housing Technology Challenge-India (GHTC), organized by MoHUA in 2019 has been instrumental in identifying global proven innovative housing construction technologies for mass rapid housing in India. ‘Construction Technology India- 2019’: 1st Biennial Expo-cum-Conference was inaugurated on 2nd March 2019 in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi by Hon’ble Prime Minister. While inaugurating the Expo, he declared year 2019-20 as ‘Construction Technology year’ to promote the new and alternate technologies on a wide scale.
As part of Construction Technology Year, so far following activities have been taken up:
- Identification of Innovative Technologies
- Shortlisting of 54 proven and alternate technologies grouped into six broad categories i.e.
- Prefabricated Sandwich Panel System.
- Monolithic Concrete Construction.
- Pre-Cast Concrete Construction System- Precast components assembled at site.
- Pre-Cast Concrete Construction System-3D Precast Volumetric.
- Light Gauge Steel Structural System & Pre-engineered Steel Structural System.
- Stay In-place Formwork System.
- Light House Projects
- Selection and Award of Contract to Construction technology providers for construction of LHPs with six different technologies.
- Enlistment of 50 Local Support Partners for facilitating logistic support to the selected proven technology providers for construction of LHPs.
- Accelerator Sustainable Housing Accelerator (ASHA-India)
- Shortlisting of 11 Domestic Potential Future technologies for Incubation Support.
- Shortlisting of 31 market ready domestic technologies for Acceleration support.
- Five Incubation Centres
(four IITs of Bombay, Madras, Kharagpur, Roorkee and CSIR-NEIST Jorhat in collaboration with CSIR-CBRI, Roorkee) have been set up for providing Incubation Support.
- Organization of Accelerator Workshop for Shortlisted Potential Future technologies under ASHA-India in collaboration with knowledge partners- WRI-India and BMTPC.
- Disaster Mitigation & Management
- E-course on Vulnerability Atlas of India by BMTPC in collaboration with School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi which was launched by Hon’ble Minister (IC), H&UA. So far, more than 300 registrations have been done for the course online.
- Thematic Workshops (6) on Vulnerability Atlas of India along with good construction practices in different parts of India.
- Certificate Course
- NAVARITIH – A Certificate Course on use of Innovative Construction Technologies has been designed by BMTPC, SPA Delhi in collaboration with faculties from IITs.
- Publication and Certification
- A Compendium on 54 alternate and innovative housing construction technologies which were identified through GHTC-India has been prepared.
- 36 new construction systems have been certified so far by BMTPC under Performance Appraisal Certification Schemes (PACS).
- CPWD has issued Schedule of Rates (SoRs) on 29 new construction technologies and a dedicated Delhi Schedule of Rates (DSR) has been published on new construction technologies.
- Mainstreaming New and Innovative Technologies
- More than 15 lakh houses under PMAY(U) are being constructed using new technologies.
- To showcase different new construction systems, Demonstration Housing Projects (DHPs) are being undertaken in different parts of the country using different technologies.
- DHPs at Nellore, Andhra Pradesh; Hyderabad, Telangana; Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh; Bhubaneshwar, Odisha; Bihar Sharif, Bihar has been successfully completed. Four new DHPs have been initiated at Agartala (Tripura); Panchkula (Haryana), Panaji (Goa) & Ahmedabad (Gujarat).
- Interactive sessions organised at DHP sites for Professionals, State Govt. officials, students of Engineering and Architecture Institutions and artisans.
